Ontario Hospitals suffer Cyberattack – Updated

A group of hospitals in southwestern Ontario have suffered an interruption of service due to a cybersecurity attack. Their IT-service provider is investigating if any data has been compromised.

Member hospitals shutdown some key systems and are using manual methods to keep services flowing for patients.

The cyberattack vector, full extent of the outage, or how long it will take to remediate have not been released.

The story continues – 21 November 2023

More data has been released on the internet from the initial cyber attack. More information here. Further, there are indications that the attackers had access to hospital systems for an extended period of time allowing them to extend their reach and extract data.

To further add to the impact on patients it appears that many of the IT-systems are going to need to be rebuilt. This will obviously have a significant impact on their ability to provide timely care to patients and will come at significant costs to the publicly funded institutions.
